Thrace Basin
- Tertiary clastic basin, clastic and carbonate (reefal) reservoirs.
- Thrace Basin is the second mature HC exploration & production area of Turkey.
- Main Production in the basin is Natural gas.
- There are about 25 producing gas fields.
- Fields produce from Eocene-Oligocene clastics and Upper Eocene reefs.
Highlights
- 3 Blocks together. 1 Block waiting for approval.
- Proven and well identified HC system on onshore part.
- Offshore part of the basin needs further explorations.
- Stratigraphic and structural traps.
- An active strike slip fault (NAF) passes throughout Sea of Marmara from east to west
- Qualified geological and geophysical datas.
- Ready and mature market conditions.
- Developed industry and gas need for energy.
Prospects and Hydrocarbon System
Primary Target: Oligocene-Miocene sandstones, Eocene carbonates and clastics.
Source Rock: U. Eocene-Oligocene Ceylan Fm, Oligocene Mezardere Fm.
Cap Rock: Oligocene – L.Miocene shales comprises cap rock properties.
Plays: Both stratigraphic and structural traps.
Porosity: Vary between 5-20 % for sandstones, 12-26 % for carbonates.
Permeability: sandstones; 5-25 md, carbonates; 2-3 md.
